David Petrovici is the first young Romanian actor to be admitted to the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), one of the most prestigious art schools in the world, founded by Walt Disney. The institute is known for training internationally renowned artists in theatre, film and animation. As a result of his achievements and artistic career, David Petrovici was included in the ‘100 Youngsters for Romania's Development’ campaign, run by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania. The campaign aims to identify and support young people with the potential to make an impact in key areas for the future of the country.
David's performance was noticed as early as the CalArts admission stage, receiving the following feedback from the evaluation committee: ‘It is rare to meet someone like you, whom we consider the perfect choice for CalArts!’”
The young Romanian actor impressed Milton Justice, director, producer, and winner of the Oscar for Best Documentary Film. He says:
‘To be perfectly honest, I haven't found such talent in young people today. David shines with dedication and creativity, and as a budding director, I was impressed by his inventive thinking.’
Milton Justice also compared David to his former students Mark Ruffalo and Bryce Dallas Howard, who later became Hollywood stars, noting that David Petrovici has the potential to bring value to any institution or person who invests in his professional development.
David Petrovici participated in a training internship in Los Angeles through IFavor Entertainment, where he had the opportunity to interact with several industry professionals: Brad Koepenick, Tony Cronin, Jeremy Kagan, Louis Fantasia, Harrison Engle, Ninon Aprea and Karen Sperling (granddaughter of Harry Warner, co-founder of Warner Bros.). Following this experience, David made a one-hour documentary about artistic life in Los Angeles.
His portfolio also includes the short film ‘Heaven Is Complicated,’ which won him the Best Short Comedy Award at the Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival 2023 when he was only 17 years old. On this occasion, he collaborated with actor Horațiu Mălăele, who noticed his talent and stage presence, stating that David has that ‘something’ that will take him far.
A graduate of the Avenor College International School in Bucharest, David is one of the young people trained and supported by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania. He has participated in numerous artistic programmes, including the 2021 ‘Take the first step towards the big stage’ competition, where he sensitively performed the famous balcony scene from William Shakespeare's ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
David Petrovici's international recognition and support from the most important institutions and figures in the industry are not only a confirmation of his talent, but also a promise: that Romania can give the world not only values, but also leaders in the arts.
