The national anti-drug campaign “Aware, Not Addicted” reaches Jimbolia and Bucharest: direct intervention in two communities with different needs but the same risk

The national anti-drug campaign “Aware, Not Addicted,” organized by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, continues its prevention efforts through two parallel initiatives in schools in Jimbolia and Bucharest - two different realities united by the same urgent need: protecting young people from drug use.

In the west part of the country, in Jimbolia, a town located near the border, the drug problem takes on a unique dimension. Its geographical location makes the area a vulnerable place, exposed to the transit of illicit substances and the influence of trafficking networks. In this context, preventive intervention becomes essential. Hundreds of students will participate in the meeting organized as part of the campaign, where they will have access to factual information and concrete examples about the risks of drug use.

The anti-drug expert Cătălin Țone will be there, along with representatives from the police, to highlight the realities on the ground and openly answer the young people’s questions, a vital dialogue in an environment where temptations and risks are more accessible than ever.

At the same time, in Bucharest, the campaign is coming to the "Luca" Theoretical High School, where hundreds of students will take part in an interactive session aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of drug use. The capital remains one of the main centers for distribution and use, and young people’s exposure to psychoactive substances, including through social media and peer groups, is constantly increasing.

These two initiatives reflect a clear strategy: interventions tailored to the local context, but with the same goal -prevention. Whether we’re talking about border towns or major urban centers, the reality is the same: the age at which people first start using drugs is decreasing, and access to drugs is becoming increasingly easy.

The “Aware, Not Addicted” campaign goes beyond simply providing information, creating real opportunities for dialogue between experts and young people - where questions are sincere and answers can make a difference. Since February, the campaign has reached dozens of cities across the country, involving thousands of students, teachers, and parents in a shared effort to build a generation that makes conscious choices.
