Two years, two world gold medals at the age of just 18: Carina Viespescu, a student at the International Theoretical High School of Informatics Bucharest, has achieved what few Olympians manage to achieve: simultaneous top performance in mathematics and Informatics, coupled with an unexpected passion for poetry and writing. Due to her impressive performances, Carina was included in the national campaign "100 Youngsters for Romania’s Development", unfolded at a national level by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania - a program dedicated to youngsters who are already building, through their actions, the country’s landmarks of tomorrow.

Carina was born in Craiova, where she was a student at the "Frații Buzești" National College until the end of high school. From a young age, she approached mathematics and Informatics through Olympiads and competitions. Each year brought about a new step forward: in 2022, gold at the National Mathematics Olympiad and silver at the Informatics Olympiad; in 2023, silver in Mathematics and bronze at the international Info(1)Cup competition. The results were so solid that her National Evaluation was equated with an average of 10 (out of 10). From the 9th grade on, her path continued in Bucharest, at ICHB, where she benefits from a full scholarship due to her academic performance. In 2024, she obtained gold and bronze, and last year - silver and bronze, along with an honourable mention at the prestigious Romanian Masters of Mathematics competition and a qualification in the extended Romanian team.

2026 was a year of consecration: she represented Romania at the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), where she won the gold medal, decisively contributing to the 1st place in Europe and the 2nd place in the world for the Romanian team, immediately after China. During the same period, she qualified for the national mathematics team and participated in the National Team Training Camp. At the International Informatics Olympiad in Teams (IIOT), Carina and her colleagues won gold again, ranking 2nd among all participating countries. Two international gold medals in a single year, in two different disciplines - mathematics and Informatics - is a rare achievement even among elite Olympians.

However, it is her balance that differentiates Carina's path from other exceptional young people. Along with mathematics rigour, she has also constantly cultivated her artistic side. She won bronze at the WeVoi International Public Speaking Competition, silver at the World Scholar's Cup, a mention at the International Literary Creation Competition and a mention at the Bucharest 2025 Youth Poetry Competition, within the "Poetry in Life" Workshop organized by the National Museum of Romanian Literature. Her passion for mathematics has also taken on a tangible form: she is the author of two volumes dedicated to students passionate about this field: "140 Mathematics Problems" and the revised bilingual edition "150+1 Problems (and their Solutions) for Olympiads and Math Competitions". She frequently publishes in Gazeta Matematică (The Mathematics Journal) and other specialized journals, and her works have been presented at the CAIM international conference (International Conference on Applied and Industrial Mathematics).

The young woman passes on what she has learned. She is a mentor within the Limitless program and has contributed to the organization and evaluation of several competitions dedicated to students. She has been invited as a speaker at educational events such as those organized by the Dolj County Center of Excellence and the "Beyond Tomorrow" event, part of the "Every Voice" project, where she spoke to students about confidence in one's own potential. Her international trajectory continues: she was accepted into the PROMYS Oxford program, dedicated to mathematics and research, and will participate as a Teacher Assistant at the AwesomeMath Summer Program, where she will contribute to the training of young people passionate about mathematics from around the world.

By including Carina Viespescu in "100 Youngsters for Romania’s Development ", the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania brings to the forefront exactly the type of model which the campaign aims to highlight: young people who, through sustained work and authentic talent, demonstrate that Romanian excellence has a solid future.
