Global performance, Romanian talent: student Mihai Voicu wins gold at the major computer science olympiads and is included in the "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" campaign

Mihai Voicu is one of the "golden children" of Romanian computer science: a student at the International Theoretical High School of Computer Science in Bucharest, multiple gold medalist at the major international Olympiads - IOI, CEOI, BOI - and part of the generation that led Romania to one of the best places in the world in computer science. At just 18, his performances confirm not only an elite academic background, but also a technical maturity rarely seen at this age.

Mihai's road to excellence is built with impressive discipline. In 2024, he placed 7th in the world and won the gold medal at the International Informatics Olympiad - IOI, and a year later he confirmed his status with another gold medal, placing 14th in the world. He also climbed to the highest step of the podium at the Central European Olympiad - CEOI 2025, after silver in 2024, and his performances also include absolute gold at the International Advanced Tournament in Informatics in two consecutive editions. This year he won gold medals at BOI and IIOT. His outstanding results were complemented by the gold medal at the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics 2023, as well as the "Mihai Pătrașcu" Award, given to the highest-ranked student in the selection tests for the IOI 2025 batch.

Behind these medals, however, lies a less publicly visible dimension: Mihai is already a technical content creator for the global algorithmic community. He has co-authored rounds on the Codeforces platform - one of the most competitive coding arenas in the world - and, since 2025, he has been coordinating their organization, managing the testing, validation and real-time moderation of competitions involving over 15,000 competitors. He has contributed to educational projects dedicated to school and high school students - from "Computer Science Stars", a competition born out of a desire to bridge the gap between junior Olympians and middle school students, to the "Limitless" program, where he teaches computer science.

Also, his participation in the study camp for IOI medalists in Hong Kong, as well as in a specialized program at the University of Chicago, confirms an academic trajectory oriented towards world excellence. Already in the league of international performance, Mihai Voicu has been co-opted in a unique educational project, proposed by a member of the organizing committee of the International Olympiad in Computer Science. The invitation came in recognition of his algorithmic expertise: Mihai has been teaching for two weeks online to the Uzbekistan national computer science team, preparing Olympians for major competitions. The collaboration continues this winter with another two weeks of intensive on-site intensive training in Uzbekistan - a rare step for a Romanian student, turning the competitive experience into a real transfer of knowledge to other nations.

Thanks to these exceptional results, Mihai Voicu was included in the campaign "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development", 2025 edition, run at national level by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania - a program that selects and promotes young people with outstanding achievements in education, science, culture and sport and connects their potential to projects of national interest.

Mihai's story is not only about medals, but also about the ability of a generation to demonstrate that Romania can create brilliant minds, able to compete and win against the best teams in the world. It is a lesson about discipline, passion and the responsibility to turn personal talent into collective progress - an example that Romanian excellence can continue to make history in the age of technology.
