The young pianist who made Florin Piersic listen in silence: 12-year-old David Dumitrescu in the 100 Youngsters for Romania's Development campaign

At just 12 years old, David Dumitrescu already stands out as an exceptional pianist, with an artistic career that combines specialized studies at the National College of Music "George Enescu", important prizes at national and international competitions, appearances on stage and in TV shows, but also an artistic maturity rarely seen at this age. For his confirmed talent, his performances and his obvious potential to become an important voice of Romanian music, the young artist was included in the national campaign "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development", run by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, a project that promotes excellence and investment in the cultural future of Romania.

A student at the George Enescu National Music College in Bucharest, David's story is one of curiosity, discipline and an early encounter with talent. He started studying piano at the age of 7, initially at home out of pure passion. It wasn't until 5th grade that he stepped into an institutional setting at the School of Arts No. 5, and in 6th grade he became a student at the prestigious Bucharest college, quickly confirming that music is not just a game, but a direction in life.

His artistic path was preceded by a complex training. From the age of 4, David took karate lessons and practiced sports dance, activities that shaped his discipline, coordination and stamina. Subsequently, music, and in particular the piano, became the space where all these qualities came together and transformed into artistic expression. A defining moment for the young pianist was meeting Florin Piersic, in front of whom he played a fragment of ABBA's famous song "The Winner Takes It All". The emotion of that moment was captured by David himself: "It was a meeting full of light, emotion and gratitude, a moment that I will always carry in my heart." The master's reaction, deeply impressed by the sensitivity and maturity of the performance, once again confirmed the true potential of the child artist.

His artistic record confirms this accelerated evolution. In recent years, David Dumitrescu has obtained the Grand Prize and the Excellence Prize at the National Instrumental Interpretation Competition (2023), the First Prize at the National Instrumental Interpretation Competition "Grand Prix of the National Children's Palace of Bucharest" (2025), Absolute First Prize at the Scherzo International Interpretation Competition (2025), as well as the First Prize of Excellence and the Prize for interpretation and technique at the Merry Music International Music Interpretation Competition (2025) - distinctions that speak of rigor, expressiveness and a technique well beyond the level of his age.

The inclusion of David Dumitrescu in the "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" campaign, run at national level by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, is the recognition of an authentic career path, built through hard work, talent and consistency.
