WEBDIDACTICA Conference: "The benefits of handwriting in the age of digital education" - Invitation for teachers, parents and children

Conferința WEBDIDACTICA: „Beneficiile scrisului de mână, în era educației digitale” - Invitație pentru profesori, părinți și copii

The fifth WEBDIDACTICA conference in 2023 is organised by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania on 26 July.

The theme of this edition is: "The benefits of handwriting in the age of digital education". Registration and participation in this conference is free of charge and those interested can register up to and including 25 July at www.fundatiadanvoiculescu.ro.

The conference is part of the FDVDR-initiated project entitled "The School of the Future", is aimed at parents, teachers and young people and is just one of the projects through which the FDVDR aligns itself with international trends in education by combining modern and traditional.

We're talking about encouraging young people to use electronic tablets to handwrite.

The proven benefits of handwriting, especially for primary education, have led to the reintroduction of the subject into the school curriculum in several countries that had initially abandoned cursive writing.

Participants had the opportunity to learn relevant information from specialists and experts in technology and psychology such as:

  • Dănuț Eremenco, Education Technology Expert,
  • Gabriela Maalouf, psychologist,
  • Cătălin Anghelache, Neuro Change Practitioner, Psychologies Magazine Romania,
  • Alexandra Chiriac, Neurologist at the Emergency Clinical Hospital "Prof. Dr. N. Oblu" in Iasi,
  • Petre Crăciun, children's literature writer, journalist.

Modern society benefits from the advantages of technology, which helps us to communicate much faster and more easily, using phones, computers and other digital means.

However, research shows that, handwriting is of major importance in developing crucial skills in both children and adults.

WEBDIDACTICA Conference: Calligraphy and its relation to Emotional Intelligence

In an age when adults are effectively forgetting how to handwrite, the conference will give participants the chance to find out how this disappearing activity, calligraphy, helps improve emotional intelligence.

The educational experts invited to the conference are educational experts and will present the importance of digitisation and the benefits of practising handwriting.

WEBDIDACTICA: Handwriting, various influences on personality

Experts say that handwriting is not just an activity that only brings cognitive benefits. The physical act of writing means there are no digital distractions around us.

When we write, no Facebook notifications or urgent emails come out of the notebook pages.

So ideas are free to flow, which leads to a natural creative flow. Pen and paper allow us to think more freely and facilitate what is called brainstorming.

Moreover, the functions in the brain that manage learning are stimulated by the movement your hand makes when writing. When the pen shapes letters on the paper a sensory experience is created that provides the brain with hooks that facilitate the assimilation of learning patterns.

The act of writing activates multiple senses and sensory experiences connect the parts of the brain that cause new concepts to be assimilated.

On the other hand, writing forms an irreplaceable part of a people's culture and identity. Handwriting styles are unique to each individual, depending on the culture they come from, and cannot be replicated or replaced by digital alternatives, which ultimately mean uniformity. Graphologists show that there is a close link between handwriting style and personality.

Participants will be included in a raffle with attractive prizes. The draw will take place on 27 July at 12:00 on the basis of the list of those who watched the conference in real time on the FDVDR Youtube channel and will be broadcast live on the FDVDR Facebook page. The grand prize will be a graphic tablet offered by WACOM.
