Fundația Dan Voiculescu pentru Dezvoltarea României [Dan Voiculescu Foundation for Romania’s Development] marks a historic moment for the national educational research, representing Romania at the 20th edition of the ECHA Conference – European Council for High Ability, launched in the period 12-15 August 2026 Dublin, Ireland.
The event, hosted by the University of Dublin, brings together world experts, researchers and educators with a view to redefine the standards of education for children with high abilities and to redefine the conventional notions on giftedness. Before this international elite community, the representatives of the Foundation present the results of the study “The Neurocognitive Profile of Excellence in Romania”, a kind of research that is unique in Eastern Europe. This validates the Romanian potential at the highest academic level, which goes to show that our country is not just a provider of international Olympic champions, but also a pioneer in understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms that are generate absolute performance.
The study was caried out by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, in partnership with the BrainMap Institute. The results that will be presented to European experts radically change the paradigm of evaluating young people with high potential, demonstrating with objective data that excellence cannot be reduced to a simple IQ or a single cognitive profile. The research analyzed 100 Romanian children, adolescents, and young people with confirmed performances in education, culture, innovation, and sports, all of whom were members of the national campaign "100 Young People for the Development of Romania". By using qEEG technology to map the electrical activity of the brain, the specialists identified three distinct patterns of achieving performance, dismantling the myth of a universal brain of genius. The analysis revealed a complex model based on twelve essential skills, including resilience, metacognition, strategic thinking, and emotional stability under pressure, scientifically arguing that talent represents only raw potential, while excellence is the process by which it is materialized into achievement through appropriate education and mentoring.
For over two decades, the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania has been supporting and promoting excellence in education, research and development of young people with high potential. Participation in the ECHA – European Council for High Ability Conference integrates local research into major European networks dedicated to children with high potential, paving the way for cross-border academic collaborations and international development programs. For the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, this global exposure represents a decisive step in the effort to draw attention to the approximately half a million Romanian children with exceptional potential, promoting the urgent need for an educational system capable of actively identifying them, supporting them and providing them with the necessary tools to excel.
