Longevity - from pioneering to innovation: the ‘Ana Aslan’ Gala 2025, supported by The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania

The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania supports, as a scientific partner, the ‘Ana Aslan’ Gala 2025 - an event dedicated to excellence in longevity and active ageing, inspired by the legacy of one of the greatest Romanian medical personalities.

The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania will award for the first time the ‘Ana Aslan’ Trophy for Outstanding Contributions to the Science of Longevity, honouring researchers who develop initiatives and studies that open new horizons and contribute to a longer and healthier life.

During the Gala, 9 categories of awards will be presented in honour of entities and individuals who have significantly contributed to the study of ageing and to the quality of life of mature and elderly people. The 2025 ‘Ana Aslan’ Gala will bring together leading personalities in science, medicine and innovation, united by the desire to transform Ana Aslan's legacy into a future project for the health of the ageing generations.

Ana Aslan was a world pioneer in geriatrics and the first doctor to demonstrate, as early as the 1950s, that ageing is not only an inevitable biological process, but also an area of research and innovation. She invented the first treatment able to slow down the ageing process and put Romania on the world map of longevity science.

Today, The Scientific Senate continues Ana Aslan's vision of active ageing with initiatives dedicated to the study of longevity. In a society where life expectancy is constantly increasing, but the quality of the years lived is becoming essential, the science of longevity is of strategic importance.

In Romania, life expectancy is 76.6 years, one of the lowest in the EU, and the population aged over 80 has increased from 2% to 5% in the last two decades. Despite these demographic developments, longevity research remains underdeveloped. Investment in longevity science is therefore essential to make ageing an active and dignified process. The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania is actively contributing to this endeavour through strategic initiatives, partnerships and programmes that support innovation and increase the quality of life of older people.
