David Anghel is Romania's mathematical genius. The young Romanian started doing complicated math as early as second grade, through Archimedes and Euclid courses, anticipating a brilliant future in mathematics. Since then, he has been training to win various competitions, conquering national and international competitions with his exceptional skill and intelligence. In grade 4 he qualified for the first Future Olympians camp, and in grade 5 he qualified for the National Mathematics Olympiad, where he won his first silver medal. In grades 5, 6 and 7 she placed first in the National Mathematics Olympiad. In the Stars of Mathematics competition, he took second place twice and first place in grade 8. In the Mathematical Danube Competition he won the silver medal in grade VII and the gold medal in grade VIII. A very important achievement was placing 5th (among the top seniors) in the IMAR 2019 competition. In the 7th grade he won the gold medal at the Balkan Junior Mathematics Olympiad.
Now, David Anghel is a 12th grader at the International Theoretical High School of Computer Science (ICHB) in Bucharest and his great passion is mathematics. In 2023, his remarkable journey reached a new level when he achieved the maximum score in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), becoming the first Romanian to achieve this feat in this millennium. David is now in the top ten of the world's best Olympians, not only the only Romanian in this top of mathematical excellence, but also the only European. He wants to continue his studies in mathematical research in the USA, where he wants to focus on discovering theorems in geometry. At the International Mathematical Olympiad in Japan, he and his fellow Romanian Olympians managed to win five gold medals and one silver. This exceptional performance placed Romania first in Europe and fourth in the global rankings, after China, the United States and South Korea.
Recently, David Anghel joined the "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" campaign, where he uses his talent and passion for mathematics to inspire and motivate future generations. In this way, the young genius not only raises the bar for future generations of mathematicians, but also becomes an ambassador of excellence and of Romania's unlimited potential in mathematics.
The project "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" launched by Dan Voiculescu Foundation for Romania's Development is dedicated to talented and gifted young people in Romania, aged between 3 and 35. The campaign aims to promote young people who have distinguished themselves through outstanding performance in education, culture, sport and innovation, encouraging their outstanding achievements. The 100 outstanding young people who make us proud to be Romanian will be included in the first catalogue of Romanian excellence. Entries for the project can be made on fundațiadanvoiculescu.ro.
