In a world where mobility is being redefined from one day to the next, Romania finds its voice through those who think beyond the present. At this year's edition of the Bucharest Auto Show & Accessories (SAB 2025), The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania's Romania becomes the place where the visionary past and the technological future meet.
Between 7 and 12 October, Romexpo visitors will be able to discover a unique exhibition "The past and future of Romanian automotive inventions", a journey from the revolutionary creations of the inventor Justin Capră to the latest intelligent urban mobility projects developed by young Romanians.
Justin Capră: the Romanian genius who envisioned the future
More than half a century after he envisioned ultra-efficient cars and unconventional propulsion, Justin Capră remains a symbol of Romanian technical creativity. Two of his creations - the Soleta 125E automobile, the most economical car of its time, capable of driving over 100 km on a liter of gasoline, and the Oroles ES-5-0001 Electroscooter, an experimental model designed as a clean urban solution - will be on display at the Foundation's stand, offering the public a true lesson in engineering and vision.
Youth innovation: Romania moving forward
Alongside these historical landmarks of Romanian innovation, The Scientific Senate's stand will host an impressive selection of projects developed by young researchers, students and pupils from all over the country - participants in the SAB 2025 Scholarship, the national competition organized by the Foundation in partnership with the Bucharest Auto Salon.
Will be present at the Foundation's stand:
- Alexandru Guzu, assistant professor at Politehnica Bucharest, with MobilityAI, an artificial intelligence-based application that optimizes urban routes and reduces carbon footprint.
- The SOLIS team from Cluj-Napoca, which built the Hyperion, the newest Romanian solar vehicle, participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025 in Australia.
- Vlad Panțîru and Cristian George, students at UBB, with Horizon, a system that turns the visor of a motorcyclist's helmet into a smart screen to prevent accidents.
- Shaan Salian and Mark Strîmbu, students from Iași, with Pickabot, the autonomous waste collection robot awarded at the International Science and Engineering Fest 2025 in Tunisia.
- UPB Drive, a team from Politehnica Bucharest that has built a hybrid racing single-seater, representing Romania at the international Formula Student competitions.
- Team TehnoZ, world champion in robotics, winner of the Maryland Tech Invitational 2025, with a robot capable of exceptional engineering performance.
SAB scholarship: a springboard for future innovators
The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation will also award the SAB 2025 Scholarship, a €5,000 prize for the most innovative urban mobility project integrating artificial intelligence. The winner will be announced on the last day of the exhibition, October 12.
"Through the SAB Scholarship, we support young people who are changing the world through ideas. We believe that the mobility of the future will be smart, sustainable and created by Romanians who have the courage to innovate", said the Foundation's representatives.
Romania - from invention to vision
The Scientific Senate's presence at the Bucharest Motor Show is a statement of confidence in Romania's creative potential. At a time when the global automotive industry is reinventing itself under the pressure of technological and climatic transformations, young Romanian innovators are showing that they can be part of the solution, not just mere spectators.
From Justin Capră's Soleta, the symbol of resource-saving, to autonomous robots and AI applications, the stand of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania tells one story: Romania has not only a past of innovation, but also a future worth building.
The Bucharest Auto Show & Accessories (SAB 2025) takes place from October 7-12, at Romexpo. The full program of exhibitions and details about the SAB Scholarship are available on fundatiadanvoiculescu.ro.
