Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania marks the 165th anniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities with two special actions dedicated to the crucial moment in the country's history, which laid the foundations of the modern Romanian state.
Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania is launching two unique initiatives to mark the event that took place 165 years ago, involving young people from all over the country in discussions on the Romanian education system, but also to bring them face to face with history.
The "Cuza: young people, law and reform" competitioni reformă”
To honour the memory of the reformer Alexandru Ioan Cuza, FDVDR has launched the contest "Cuza: young people, law and reform", dedicated to young people aged 14-20, who are challenged to imagine they are Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the ruler who wrote the first education law and laid the foundations of Romanian education, and write a contemporary reform for Romania's education system. Participants are encouraged to come up with innovative and achievable ideas to help improve the quality of education in Romania. All proposals received from participants will be sent to the Ministry of Education. The real impact of the competition is the opportunity for young people to express their visions and contribute to the change and development of the Romanian education system.
Moreover, participants are invited to propose innovative ideas for a modern and excellent education, thus continuing Cuza's revolutionary vision of education. Every year, thousands of gifted children and young people who graduate from Romanian educational institutions choose to continue their academic and professional careers abroad. These gifted children and young people, who have the capacity to change and contribute to the development of the country, are not supported by special educational programmes or by laws in place. Registration for the competition runs from 19 to 25 January. The rules of the competition can be found here and registration for the project is by filling in the application form.
Tour dedicated to Olympic students "Following Cuza's footsteps in Bucharest"
The second initiative, launched by Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, will take place on 24 January, and consists of a guided tour "Following Cuza's footsteps in Bucharest", dedicated to Olympic students in Bucharest. Guided by historian Tudor Vișan-Miu, the tour will give participants a glimpse into the history of the Unification of the United Principalities, focusing on the key moments that took place 165 years ago at the Patriarchal Palace, the place where the Union was voted. This initiative not only brings young people closer to national history, but also offers a real insight into the link between past and present. Students will have the opportunity to better understand the events that led to the Union of the United Principalities and to connect to the legacy left by the ruler Cuza.
In the year in which we celebrate the 165th anniversary of the Unification of the United Principalities, Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania reminds us that education and the involvement of young people are the key to building a future of excellence. Through these two special initiatives, FDVDR not only celebrates historical events, but also invests in the future of leaders and thinkers who will continue to build and reform Romanian society.
