Performance in a school without a sports hall. The story of teacher Ionica Nedelcu, finalist of the "League of Exceptional Teachers" campaign of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania

In an era when physical education is becoming increasingly essential for the harmonious development of young people, Ionica Nedelcu, a physical education and sport teacher at Gymnasium School 112 in Bucharest, is a noteworthy example of dedication and innovation. Ionica Nedelcu is a finalist in the national "League of Exceptional Teachers" campaign, run by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania. She has gained the admiration of her students and colleagues as a result of her invaluable contributions to the field of sports education.

Ionica Nedelcu is a former competitive rower and an ambassador for the "Born for Sport" project. She has dedicated her professional career to the promotion of physical activity and the development of healthy lifestyles among young people. As a pioneer in the promotion of oina, a traditional Romanian sport, in schools in Bucharest and at the European level, Ionica Nedelcu has organised a multitude of lessons, demonstrations and workshops for both teachers and students. These initiatives have had a considerable impact, contributing to the revival of interest in the sport among new generations.

Despite the lack of a gymnasium at Secondary School 112, Ionica Nedelcu was able to overcome this challenge. With ingenuity and determination, she coached the school teams in the parks, achieving notable results in national and municipal competitions in oisin and rugby-tag. A significant proportion of her pupils have subsequently become accomplished athletes, representing renowned sports clubs and achieving notable success.

Ionica Nedelcu's community involvement is also noteworthy. She has initiated and participated in a number of projects, including "Athletics in schools", "Kinesis for social integration" and "Today I'm your sports teacher!", which have been designed to promote physical activity and encourage social inclusion. The programme's focus on social issues, such as combating bullying and preventing drug trafficking and drug use in schools, reflects its deep commitment to the well-being and all-round development of pupils.

As a finalist in the League of Exceptional Teachers campaign, Ionica Nedelcu not only receives well-deserved recognition for her efforts, but also serves as an inspirational role model for teachers across the country.
