Bucharest Auto Salon & Accessories (SAB) 2024, held from October 1 to 6 at Romexpo, is one of the largest automotive events in Romania, highlighting the latest innovations in the automotive industry, with a focus on green technologies and sustainable mobility. SAB 2024 continues its tradition of promoting electric vehicles and green solutions for smart cities.
A notable feature of the event was the Green Friday debate, which took place on 4 October. The event constituted an important platform for discussing sustainable and innovative solutions in the fields of energy, transportation and the use of artificial intelligence to create a green city. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, mayors, entrepreneurs and young participants of the SAB 2024 Scholarship competition, who presented their revolutionary projects, the first of their kind in Romania.
The discussions underscore the potential of green solutions for integration into urban environments, encompassing electric vehicles and projects based on artificial intelligence. This provides an optimal platform for investigating strategies to enhance urban greenery and efficiency.
The Green Friday event was primarily concerned with the conferral of awards upon young researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of sustainable urban mobility. The Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania (FDVDR) presented two special awards, each with a value of €2,500, for projects employing innovative techniques based on artificial intelligence to address urban mobility challenges.
The inaugural prize was bestowed upon Bianca Ghinoiu for her project, which employs electroencephalogram technology to facilitate the control of drones via brainwaves. This innovative approach has the potential to revolutionize a multitude of fields, including security, transportation, and assistive technology for individuals with disabilities.
The second prize was awarded to the team comprising Danci Nicola Daria and Petric Lucas Mihai for their EcoStep Energy Plates project. This is an intelligent system that converts pedestrians' footsteps into electricity, which can be used to power urban infrastructure such as street lighting or electric vehicle charging stations. The system employs artificial intelligence to optimise energy generation, thereby contributing to the creation of a smart and energy-efficient city.
In addition to conferring awards upon the selected projects, Green Friday at SAB 2024 offers a crucial forum for discourse on the future of sustainable mobility in Romania. This event serves to elucidate pragmatic strategies for curbing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, thereby reinforcing SAB's role as a hub for green innovation.
