Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, in partnership with Idea Papel, initiated during this period the social campaign - Backpacks for big dreams – which provided fully equipped backpacks for children up to 10 years old.
The aim of this initiative was that 400 children whose parents cannot afford to buy the necessary school supplies to start school will receive a backpack fully equipped with the necessary school supplies.
Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania's calls for the social campaign were heard by many big-hearted citizens who wrote on the Foundation's Facebook page the stories of these children.
There are many stories from which anyone can learn the meaning of courage, perseverance, strength of character from children who are afflicted by fate, who make superhuman efforts to overcome the limits imposed by the social condition of the family.
The social campaign: messages from good people
"Hello! I am a mother of two little princesses, but also the teacher of a special child with special educational needs, who undoubtedly deserves all the best and most beautiful in life. Today I am writing to you for him, my pupil, who is a well-behaved, quiet child who is making remarkable progress from one year to the next, even though the difficulties of his illness are making their presence felt", is the message from a teacher who is sensitive to the problem of one of her pupils.
The story of a father whose wife has died and who is raising three children alone was brought to our attention by a neighbour who noted the family's situation: "There is a father with three children next to me, their mother died a year ago. They are having a very hard time, but despite all the shortcomings the children are very good and clever, they respect everyone".
A backpack has also arrived for the fourth-grader who walks two kilometres to school every day with her siblings. The case was reported by the girl's teacher: "A backpack for big dreams would be a wonderful gift for a student like mine, who comes from a large family with minimal material possibilities. The 4th grade girl paints beautifully, is ambitious, loves school, even though she walks 2 km every day with her 3 younger siblings."
According to the latest statistics published by the organization Salvați Copiii, no less than 25,000 Romanian children live on the edge of subsistence, our country being, from this point of view, on the first place in the European Union.
The social campaign "Backpacks for Big Dreams" comes to the aid of children from families for whom buying a backpack and the necessary school supplies for the new school year is a financial burden.
The girl who starts her day at 6 a.m. and finishes it at 10 p.m.
Equally impressive is the story of the little girl who wakes up every day at 6 a.m. to go to school and then, in the afternoon, travels by bus from her commune to Bucharest where she learns to play the piano.
Her passion for this instrument occupies her time until the evening when she returns home to do homework and rest. Surely this ambitious child also deserved a backpack full of school supplies for his extraordinary strength and perseverance in pursuing his dream.
"The Savior sent his good servants"
As part of the same campaign, dozens of children from the Secondary School, Municipality Cocorăștii Colț received backpacks fully equipped with school supplies before the bell rang to start the new school year.
With the help of the pastor of the local church, the children were able to rejoice that they had fulfilled the most important condition for starting the new school year.
"We enjoy together with our children in the community of Cocorăştii Grind. It's as if the excitement of the beginning of the school year is also welcoming us. The Church has shown them and will always show them that it does not leave them alone. Following the Savior's words: 'Let the children come to me and do not stop them', today the children came to the Savior and the Savior sent his good servants to meet them", said Pastor Ioan Vrăjitoru.
