The education of visually impaired students, a priority for teacher Laurian Micu, finalist of the national campaign "League of Exceptional Teachers" of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania

Teacher Laurian Micu, a dedicated history and religion teacher at the Special Theoretical High School "IRIS" in Timisoara, has recently been named a finalist in the national campaign League of Exceptional Teachers, organised by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania. With 16 years of teaching experience, Mr Micu is recognised for his exceptional commitment to his students, the majority of whom are blind or visually impaired.

Laurian Micu's commitment to his profession and to the students he teaches extends beyond the typical boundaries of the classroom. He was the driving force behind numerous projects and initiatives that had a profound impact on the school community. One of the most noteworthy projects was "Smart Guidance for the Blind," which involved the installation of guidance equipment around the school and campus, thus facilitating orientation and mobility for visually impaired students.

In addition to this project, Laurian Micu also organised "Smart Education-Summer School", a programme that provides students with innovative learning opportunities during the summer break. He has also coordinated the entrepreneurship project "STEP-Teacher Entrepreneurs", which teaches students business skills and entrepreneurial thinking.

Another area in which Laurian Micu has been actively involved is environmental education. He has managed programmes under the Eno-Environmental Online initiative, which has the objective of promoting environmental awareness and responsibility among students. Furthermore, he has publicised and supported the construction of a sensory park, which is a particularly important space for visually impaired students, offering them a great multi-sensory experience.

One of the most memorable activities organised by Laurian Micu was the trip to Brussels for a group of 12 students. There, the students had the opportunity to perform a concert at L'Abbaye de la Cambre, together with the Flagey Academy and the Singing Molenbeek choir. This experience was not only a great cultural opportunity, but also a chance to demonstrate their artistic talents in an international setting.

By implementing these initiatives, Laurian Micu has not only enhanced the educational experience of his students, but has also established an environment conducive to their holistic development and integration into society. The nomination of Laurian Micu as a finalist in the League of Exceptional Teachers campaign is a well-deserved recognition of his unwavering efforts and dedication. Laurian Micu is a paragon of inspiration, both for his colleagues in education and for the wider community. The public is invited to support their preferred teachers until 18 July by casting their votes at vot.fundatiadanvoiculescu.ro.
