National competition, dedicated to libraries in Romania

The Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania has launched the national competition "10 Libraries Rated 10", offering schools and high schools across the country the chance to modernise and equip their libraries with furniture and a new book collection.

In the last 3 years, the number of school libraries in Romania has decreased by more than 500 and this phenomenon is far from ending as the Romanian state has not invested any money in this field for more than 23 years. The situation is even worse in rural areas where, according to statistics, 6 out of 10 schools lack libraries.

In this context, the "10 Libraries Rated 10" campaign aims to provide support to Romanian educational institutions to modernise their reading spaces.

When and how to apply

From 1 November 2023 to 20 January 2024, any public education establishment can register on the Foundation's website: [https://fundatiadanvoiculescu.ro/10-biblioteci-de-nota-10/].

Applications must be accompanied by a letter of motivation and a presentation of the needs of the educational establishment, as well as other aspects such as a plan of activities encouraging reading.

After the application period, between 21 and 31 January, the applications of the registered schools will be examined and the winners will be announced on 1 February. The award ceremony will take place on 15 February 2024.

The "10 Libraries Rated 10" campaign underlines Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania's commitment to contribute to quality education in Romania, facilitating the development of young people in a new and modern educational environment.

The national campaign is supported by partners Ideea Papel and Fischer International, which contribute to the modernization of libraries in Romania and to equipping them with a new book collection.
