Young people from Romania invited by UNESCO to international dialog on ethics of neurotechnologies

Young people from Romania have been invited to participate in a high-level international dialogue organized by UNESCO, dedicated to one of the most relevant issues of the modern world: the ethics of neurotechnologies. The event is an important step in the preparation of the Fourth UNESCO International Model, a global platform where young people discuss, debate and formulate recommendations for future policies.

The participation of young Romanians in this global dialog is possible thanks to the involvement of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, affiliated to the worldwide network of UNESCO Clubs and Associations. Through its projects and programs dedicated to the education and development of young people, the Foundation facilitates their access to international initiatives that amplify their voice and contribution.

The event brings to the fore the social impact of technologies capable of interacting with the human brain and the ethical directions set by the new Recommendation on the Ethics of Neurotechnology, adopted by UNESCO in 2025. International experts, researchers and representatives of the world organization explore the responsible uses of these technologies, the ethical challenges they raise and how human dignity can be protected in an age of accelerated innovation.

During the event, the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania was represented by the psychologist Gabriela Maalouf, who discussed the perspective of Romanian children and young people in relation to emerging neurotechnologies. She emphasized the importance of protecting fundamental rights and human dignity, but also the need to develop a culture of responsibility in the use of these technologies.

"Young people must be at the center of these debates because they will live in a world shaped by neurotechnologies. It is essential to have an informed and balanced voice representing their interests", Gabriela Maalouf pointed out in her intervention.

The event is organized in collaboration with the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (WFUCA), the National Federation of UNESCO Clubs in Kazakhstan and the Hong Kong UNESCO Association, bringing together participants from all regions of the world.

Through such initiatives, Romania is aligning itself with the big global conversations about the future of technology and ethics, giving young people the opportunity to actively participate in shaping international policies.

Those interested can connect to the UNESCO debate to follow the discussions and perspectives of international experts on the future of neurotechnologies and their implications for society.
