The young Romanian engineers, members of the 2SPACE team, finalists of the "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" campaign, run by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, will launch the supersonic rocket "Project YODA" from the USA in the next few days.
The launch will take place at the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) 2025, one of the most prestigious aerospace engineering events for students and young researchers worldwide. The competition is being held in Midland, Texas, June 9-14 and attracts more than 150 teams from 20 countries, each bringing their own technological innovations and cutting-edge solutions. IREC is considered by industry experts as an arena where future leaders in aerospace engineering test and demonstrate advanced technologies that could revolutionize the global space industry.
"We have the most powerful rocket in southwest Europe. We started with the biggest European competition on the supersonic rocket side and at the moment we are already in our 3rd participation in the biggest competition. The rocket in the design phase is 3 meters and 35 kg. The rocket we created reaches 9,000 meters altitude in about 1 minute", says 2Space team leader Cătălin Chelmuș.
"Project YODA", the rocket designed and built 100% by the 2Space team, is a combination of cutting-edge technology, engineering creativity and the ambition to put Romania on the global map of space exploration.
The general public will have the opportunity to watch the launch live on the Facebook page of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, thus witnessing a special moment for the international scientific community.
