The Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania marks 35 years of dedication to supporting the talent and excellence of young people in Romania this month. Over the course of this period, an entire generation has flourished and others have continued to evolve through the implementation of innovative educational programs and by capitalising on authentic performance benchmarks. It is estimated that more than 130,000 young people and teachers have directly benefited from educational, research and cultural projects, supported by a cumulative investment of more than €10 million in Romania's development.
The Foundation's "Education and Culture" and "Development and Research" departments have functioned in unison to facilitate the identification and nurturing of talent, thereby providing Romanian children and young people with the requisite instruments for harmonious development and the attainment of optimal performance levels. Over time, the programmes have been adapted to the realities of the education system and the needs of the community. In the last year alone, over 50 projects have been executed, ranging from national campaigns and school competitions to large-scale cultural events, which have successfully engaged tens of thousands of participants.
Among the most notable initiatives are the "100 Youngsters for Romania's Development" and "Exceptional Teachers League" campaigns, the "School of the Future", "Aristotle" and "Preschoolers' Olympiads" competitions, as well as the cultural landmark events such as the "Crai Nou. The Life of Ciprian Porumbescu" and the celebrations dedicated to National Day and National Culture Day.
Concurrently, the Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania has assumed an instrumental role in fostering research and innovation. The Senate has been recognised as the first forum in Romania to initiate a public debate on the subject of longevity medicine. It has promoted science through projects that are both courageous and publicly accessible. Initiatives such as the development of functional foods (water-based kefir and rejuvenating bread) and the SAB Fellowship, dedicated to young innovators, have been instrumental in bringing research out of the laboratory and into everyday life. The launch of the "Longevity Map" and the organisation of conferences and debates on nutrition and healthy lifestyles, in partnership with renowned institutions, also provided a relevant framework for dialogue between researchers, specialists and the public interested in a long and healthy life.
The commitment to Romania's development was also reflected through strategic partnerships with prestigious institutions and organisations in the country and abroad. The Foundation has established affiliations with international networks, including the European Council for High Ability, the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children, UNESCO and the European Talent Support Network. This facilitates the integration of international best practices into national projects. FDVDR also cooperates with the Ministry of Education, the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, the National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, National Geographic Learning, the National Theatre "I.L. Caragiale", the National Library, the Romanian Academy, TVR Cultural, and TVR International.
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its establishment, the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania reaffirms its commitment to initiatives capable of fostering the development of Romania. In the coming years, the portfolio of projects will be expanded and new initiatives will be launched, tailored to today's needs, in order to continue to support the harmonious development of tomorrow's Romania.
